Speights – you’re looking good mate!
The cladding of Hamilton’s Speight’s Ale House in Jenkin A-lign was finished in November, and it’s looking good.
HAMILTON – “I’m very happy with the end result,” says ex-All Black Arran Pene, proprietor of the Ale House. “Our builders enjoyed working with timber weatherboard, and of course timber has got a lot of tradition behind it as well.”
Arran says the building has attracted a lot of attention in its prominent site near the Waikato Stadium. It’s well situated for people meeting up after work downtown, and proximity to the Waikato Stadium makes it a great place for after match celebrations.
The traditional weatherboard look of most Speight’s Ale Houses throughout the country has previously been achieved using a composite product. Builder Peter Doole said he enjoyed having the opportunity to work with solid timber again.
“The A-lign was a lot easier to use. The precut scribers made it just very easy to set out the weatherboards, it was quick to put on, it cut a lot of time and labour. And I was very happy with the finish.”
Now we’re not suggesting a special trip to Hamilton just to check out how good our Jenkin A-lign is looking. But next time you are in the River City, go and check out the cladding – and have a quiet drink with Arran and the team.
